BENEATH

Once upon a grassy knoll

where lovers kiss

and vagrants rest

shade and flowered

praised as dressed

a place so blessed

Twice sacred ground

their burial mound

our gentle hill

beneath a newer tree

They came to sound

off earthly chains

in liberated madness

danced down with gold

for dead to hold

loved and extolled

To those and they

The Earth and day

We thank this place

that drank their tears of sadness
